Champion Hills Golf Course Photos
Champion Hills is one of those golf courses I really like and, for some reason, haven’t played again in far too long.
That’s one of the problems with golfing in Northern Michigan. There are so many courses on my list that sometimes a really good one quietly gets pushed aside while I’m off chasing the next course I haven’t played yet.
We played Champion Hill in Beulah for our first Up North round of the 2022 season.
And when I say early in the season, I mean early.
Northern Michigan hadn’t really greened up yet. The grass was still waking up from winter, course maintenance was just getting underway, and everything had that familiar early spring look.
If you golf Up North in the spring, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
So I don’t think our pictures from that day do Champion Hill justice.
I didn’t take nearly as many as I normally would because the course wasn’t showing off what it would look like a few weeks later. Looking back, I wish I had taken more anyway.
Because I really enjoyed this course.
Champion Hill sits on some beautiful Benzie County terrain, and the rolling landscape gives you plenty of great views as you make your way around. There is enough challenge to keep you thinking, but I remember it as a course where I could relax and simply enjoy playing golf.
Maybe that’s why I’ve always remembered it so fondly.
The funny thing is, every once in a while Champion Hill pops back into my head and I think, We really need to get back there.
Then another course gets added to the list.
Then another.
Then golf season suddenly isn’t nearly as long as it seemed back in May.
So I’m putting it in writing this time.
We need to get back to Champion Hill.
Not just because I want updated pictures after everything has greened up, although I definitely do. I want to play it again because I remember genuinely enjoying the course.
Until then, keep in mind that the pictures below show Champion Hill very early in the Northern Michigan golf season. They are a snapshot of the course just waking up from winter, not Champion Hill in its full summer glory.
Sounds like a perfectly good excuse for another round to me. ⛳
