Golf has always been better when more people feel welcome to play. That is a big reason why Women’s Golf Day continues to grow every year, both around the world and right here in Northern Michigan.
11th Anniversary of Women’s Golf Day
From May 26 through June 2, golf courses across the globe will host Women’s Golf Day events designed to introduce new golfers to the game while also giving experienced players a fun way to connect, play, and share their love of golf. The best part is that it is meant to feel relaxed and approachable. No pressure, no intimidation, just a chance to enjoy the game with other women who either already love golf or have always wanted to give it a try.
This year marks the 11th anniversary of Women’s Golf Day, which started back in 2016 and has grown into a worldwide celebration with more than 1,300 participating locations across over 80 countries. That is a pretty good turnout for a game where some of us still lose three balls before the turn.
Format
The format is simple and honestly pretty smart. Events are built around a four hour experience. The first part usually includes either lessons for beginners or a casual nine hole scramble for more experienced golfers. After that, everyone comes together for food, drinks, conversation, and socializing. It creates an easy way for longtime golfers to bring along a friend who may have never picked up a club before.
One thing that stands out about Women’s Golf Day is that it is not just about teaching golf swings or fixing slices. It is about building confidence, friendships, and a sense of community around the game. Golf can feel intimidating when you are first getting started, especially if your only exposure is watching tour pros hit towering drives while you are trying to remember which pocket holds the tees.
Women’s Golf Day helps remove some of those barriers by creating an environment where beginners and experienced players can simply enjoy the game together.
Women Golfers
According to the National Golf Foundation, there are now more than 8 million female golfers in the United States, making up a record 28 percent of all on course golfers. Even more impressive, female participation has increased 46 percent since 2019. That is great news for the future of golf and honestly great news for anyone who enjoys seeing the game continue to grow.
Participants are also encouraged to wear red and white during the events, joining a global golf community that stretches across six continents. It is one of those fun traditions that makes the whole thing feel connected, even if your golf game occasionally feels disconnected from the fairway.
Northern Michigan only has four participating locations this year, but they are some pretty familiar names for golfers around the region.

Whether you are someone who plays every weekend or someone who has only ridden along in the cart and handled snack duty, Women’s Golf Day is a pretty great excuse to spend some time at the course.
And who knows, it might just turn into the start of a lifelong golf obsession. Fair warning though, that usually leads to checking weather apps constantly and owning way more quarter zips than you ever planned on.
