West Branch Country Club Photos

We recently played a round at West Branch Country Club on a day that turned out to be quite pleasant, despite some initial rain. I played with 2 of my sons and son-in-law. We first encountered the ranger around the second or third hole. Though his approach was a bit unusual, I understood his intentions. He hadn’t seen us before and wanted to ensure we were familiar with the course rules and would take good care of it. He emphasized the importance of pace of play, maintaining the proper distance from the greens (10 yards from the greens and 20 yards from the approach), and properly repairing divots.

The ranger took great pride in his role as the “Divot Czar” (a nickname I gave him, as his self proclaimed title isn’t fit for polite conversation) and monitored us until he was confident we were adhering to the guidelines. He even came up to compliment me on my adherence to the 20-yard rule from the greens approach. I just smiled and agreed, saying, “Of course, I’m a rule follower.”

The course itself was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our round. At one point, I spotted 2 of the guys on the other side of the road searching for a lost ball—a hazard when the fairway runs along a road. Despite the ranger’s intense oversight, I would definitely return to play this course again (I forgot to get a picture of hole 5). I was also surprised by the pro shop’s lack of stock and absence of clothing options, especially since they also own the Dream and the Nightmare courses. I was disappointed because I usually make a point to purchase some sort of logo wear for myself, my husband, and any family member playing with me.
