We recently played a round at West Branch Country Club on a day that turned out to be quite pleasant, despite some initial rain. I played with 2 of my sons and son-in-law. We first encountered the ranger lurking in the trees as we teed off at the first hole. He came up to talk to us at the green on the third hole. Though his approach was a bit unusual, I understood his intentions. He hadn’t seen us before and wanted to ensure we were familiar with the course rules and would take good care of it.
The course itself was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our round. At one point, I spotted 2 of the guys on the other side of the road retrieving a ball—a hazard when the fairway runs along a road.
