The Tamaracks Golf Course Photos

Sometimes the best golf courses are the ones you weren’t looking for.

We were spending the weekend at the Up Mid Kid’s cabin and, naturally, started looking for somewhere nearby to golf.

That’s how we discovered The Tamaracks Golf Course in Harrison.

What a great surprise.

The Tamaracks has been owned by the same family since 1981, and honestly, you can feel it when you’re there.

There wasn’t one thing we could find wrong with the place.

The course was well cared for, the people were friendly, and the entire place had a comfortable, welcoming feel to it.

Their tagline pretty much sums it up:

“We’re not the Country Club, Just a GREAT Club in the Country.”

Yep.

That’s The Tamaracks.

Don’t mistake that relaxed atmosphere for an easy golf course, though.

There is water.

Quite a bit of water.

And water hazards have an amazing ability to attract golf balls that had absolutely no intention of going anywhere near them.

At least that’s what I tell myself.

What I really appreciated about The Tamaracks was that everyone in our group enjoyed it.

We had golfers with different skill levels, and the course worked for all of us. It was challenging enough to keep the better golfers interested without making the rest of us feel like we had accidentally wandered onto a course we had no business playing.

That’s a balance I appreciate.

We went into the round knowing almost nothing about The Tamaracks.

We left wondering how we hadn’t heard more about it.

That’s one of my favorite things about golfing around Northern Michigan. Every once in a while, you pick a course simply because it’s close to where you happen to be staying and discover a place that immediately goes on the “we need to play that again” list.

The Tamaracks was one of those finds.

No fancy country club atmosphere.

No big resort.

Just a great golf course in the country.

Turns out their tagline was right. ⛳
