The Loon Golf Resort – The Loon Golf Course Photos

In early fall 2023, we headed to Gaylord for a golf weekend at The Loon Golf Resort.

We played The Ridge on Friday and saved the supposedly easier Loon Course for Saturday.

I say supposedly for a reason.

The Loon has plenty of elevation, including elevated tee boxes and greens. There was also a par 5 with a dogleg that apparently had a personal issue with me.

Easy is relative in golf.

The back nine opened up quite a bit, with wider fairways and some beautiful views. Northern Michigan was also just beginning to put on its fall colors, which made a great backdrop for the round.

That’s one of my favorite times to golf Up North.

The temperatures are usually comfortable, the scenery is changing, and every once in a while you get a golf ball buried under a leaf just to remind you there are tradeoffs.

All that elevation did eventually start taking a toll on my hips and back.

But we kept moving, stayed on pace, and finished the round.

Sometimes that’s the victory.

More importantly, we had a great time.

Actually, we loved our entire weekend at The Loon.

The accommodations were definitely showing their age when we stayed there in 2023, but the room was comfortable and served its purpose perfectly well.

We weren’t there to admire the furniture.

We were there to golf.

And golf we did.

The resort had a relaxed atmosphere, we enjoyed both courses we played, and by the end of the weekend we were very happy we’d chosen The Loon for our fall getaway.

There was also one moment during our round that we’re still not completely sure about.

The couple playing ahead of us appeared to get married on one of the greens.

At least that’s what it looked like.

We didn’t exactly walk up and ask.

But there seemed to be a ceremony happening, and if they really did get married in the middle of their round, I have to give them credit.

Most weddings have a cocktail hour.

These two may have had a tee time.

The Loon challenged me more than I expected, my hips and back weren’t particularly impressed with all the elevation, and I’m still not convinced it deserves that “easier” description.

But I enjoyed it.

And paired with our round at The Ridge, it made for a pretty darn good fall golf weekend in Gaylord.

Dated room and all.

After all, when the golf is good, how much time are you really spending in the room anyway? ⛳
