Redwood Golf Course Photos

Redwood Golf Course in Roscommon was the site of my first round with Alex this year, and it turned out to be a pretty special one.

Alex was at his cottage, and with Mother’s Day coming up, he asked me to meet him in Roscommon for a round of golf.

Just the two of us.

We’ve played plenty of golf together over the years, usually with Guy, Alex’s friends, other family members, or whoever else happens to be around.

This time it was just Mom and son.

And we had a blast.

At some point during the round, Alex told me how much he was enjoying golfing with me and that he was a little surprised by how much fun it was with just the two of us.

I’ll take that as a compliment.

Although I’m not entirely sure why he was so surprised. 🙂

Redwood itself was a pleasant surprise too.

When we first headed out, the course looked pretty friendly. It’s open, with wide fairways and more of a parkland feel. There are trees around, but compared with some Northern Michigan courses where you’re standing on the tee trying to find a sliver of fairway between the woods, Redwood gives you some room.

I remember thinking this might be a fairly easy round.

Then we reached the greens.

Apparently Redwood had been saving the challenge for later.

The greens were small, and we could never quite figure out their speed. One putt seemed fast. The next seemed slow. Just when we thought we had them figured out, we’d discover that we absolutely did not.

Getting into any kind of putting rhythm was a challenge.

But honestly, I don’t remember this round because of the greens or what I shot.

I remember laughing with Alex and spending a few hours on the golf course with just him.

Golf has given me a lot of those moments with my kids over the years. Sometimes it’s a big family group. Sometimes it’s an outing. Sometimes it’s everyone squeezing in a round during a wedding weekend.

And sometimes it’s simply a mom and her son meeting halfway for a Mother’s Day round.

Redwood was that course for us.

We went there expecting to play some golf.

We came away with one of my favorite rounds of the year.

Although next time I’d still appreciate it if those greens would pick a speed and stick with it. ⛳
