When you’re in Marquette for your daughter’s wedding, there are a lot of things that need to get done.

Apparently, playing golf is one of them.

We had quite the crew for this round. Dom, the groom, was joined by three of his groomsmen, my sons Patrick and Alex, and Johnny, who had come all the way from Scotland for the wedding. Guy and I played, along with two of our grandkids.

My son Jeff was also a groomsman, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to join us for the golf.

So this wasn’t exactly a quiet little foursome slipping out for 18 holes.

We chose Red Fox Run Golf Course in Gwinn, about 15 to 20 minutes from Marquette, and it turned out to be the perfect choice for our wedding golf round.

There was a little chaos when everyone arrived and tried to get checked in and organized, but the staff couldn’t have handled it better. Everyone was friendly, patient, and gracious while we got our crew sorted out.

Then we headed out to play.

And we loved the course.

With a group like ours, you’re going to have golfers with different abilities and different expectations. Some are trying to put together a good round. Some are mostly there to spend time with everyone. And some are probably just hoping to finish with a reasonable number of golf balls still in the bag.

Red Fox Run worked really well for all of us.

The course was fun, the atmosphere was relaxed, and everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy the day.

For me, getting to golf with Guy, two of our sons, two of our grandkids, Dom, and Johnny made the round even more special.

There are rounds you remember because you played particularly well.

There are rounds you remember because the course was spectacular.

And then there are rounds you remember because of who was there.

This one will always be one of those rounds.

Of course, not all the memories happened on the golf course.

We need to give a special shout out to Jolene in the bar.

Somewhere along the way, Jolene introduced the guys to tequila shots followed by a pickle juice chaser.

Yes, pickle juice.

I don’t know who originally looked at a shot of tequila and thought, You know what this needs? Pickle juice.

But apparently it’s a thing.

And the guys were willing research participants.

Between the golf, the wedding crew, the grandkids, the friendly staff, and Jolene expanding everyone’s knowledge of tequila consumption, Red Fox Run ended up being exactly what we needed that day.

It wasn’t just another golf course we played while visiting the Upper Peninsula.

It became part of Ronessa and Dom’s wedding weekend.

And years from now, I have a feeling we’ll still be talking about that round.

And probably the pickle juice. ⛳
