Lakewood on the Green Golf Course Photos
If you can play a golf course in a torrential downpour and still leave saying, “We need to come back,” that’s probably a pretty good sign.
That was our first experience at Lakewood on the Green in Cadillac.
We were heading down to spend a weekend with one of the kids at their cabin near Harrison and, naturally, decided we should find a golf course along the way. Cadillac made sense, and we landed on Lakewood on the Green.
Mother Nature apparently had some thoughts about our plans.
It rained.
And rained.
And then rained some more.
But we kept playing.
Despite being soaked, we had a blast and really liked the course. By the time we finished, we had already decided we needed to come back and play it again when it was warm, sunny, and preferably not necessary to wring out our clothes afterward.
Lakewood also has one of the more unusual layouts we’ve encountered.
The course winds through a residential neighborhood, and getting from some holes to the next requires driving your golf cart right through the subdivision.
The first time you do it, there is a moment when you wonder if you missed a cart path somewhere.
Nope.
Just keep driving through the neighborhood. Eventually, your golf hole appears.
Our first visit was also memorable because of the young guy working inside. As far as we could tell, he was handling the pro shop and the bar by himself, and he was awesome. Friendly, helpful, and somehow keeping everything going.
The restaurant area looked really nice too, although we didn’t get the chance to really experience it that day.
We did, however, keep our promise to come back.
In 2025, Alex called and asked if he could take me golfing for Mother’s Day. We decided to meet at Lakewood the Saturday before Mother’s Day and give the course another try.
This time there was a bartender.
Things were looking up.
There was also no torrential rain.
It still wasn’t exactly the warm, sunny round we had promised ourselves, but at least we were dry. More importantly, we enjoyed Lakewood just as much the second time around.
That confirmed something for me.
Our positive impression the first time wasn’t simply because we were laughing our way through a ridiculous rainstorm. We really do like this course.
And getting to return for a Mother’s Day round with Alex made the second visit even better.
So now we’ve played Lakewood in pouring rain and again in cool, dry weather.
Apparently we still have one more trip to make.
Third time’s the charm.
Warm and sunny, Lakewood. That’s all I’m asking. ⛳
