Bear on the Mountain – Formerly Hessel Ridge Golf Course Photos
Sometimes our course pictures capture more than a round of golf. They capture a course at a particular point in its history.
The guys played this course when it was still Hessel Ridge Golf Course during one of their golf trips to Drummond Island. At the time, Hessel Ridge had recently reopened after being closed for two seasons during the pandemic.
And it looked like a course that was making a comeback.
The guys said some areas were still a little rough around the edges, which wasn’t surprising after the course had been sitting idle. What they also noticed was that work was being done and progress was being made. They could see the potential.
A lot has changed since that round.
Hessel Ridge was purchased by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and is now Bear on the Mountain Golf Course. The new ownership has continued putting work into the property, including improvements to the course and equipment.
In fact, Guy has since been back and played Bear on the Mountain again, and his report was quite a bit different from that first visit.
He said it was looking great and definitely worth visiting.
That makes these pictures a little different from most of our galleries. They show the course during that transition period, when Hessel Ridge had reopened and was beginning its comeback.
Unfortunately, the guys didn’t take a ton of pictures that day. This was before I had properly trained them that a Golf Up North golf trip requires photographic evidence.
We’ll have to work on getting back there for some updated pictures of Bear on the Mountain.
And by “we,” I mean perhaps I should go this time.
Clearly, I can’t trust the guys with the camera. ⛳
