Bayou Oaks City Park Course Photos
Golf Up North went way south for this round.
We were in New Orleans for the renewal of Guy’s brother’s wedding vows, and somehow we managed to work a round of golf into the trip. Imagine that.
I got to play Bayou Oaks at City Park with Guy and two of his brothers, which is always a blast. I had never been to New Orleans before, so getting to play golf while we were there made the trip even more fun.
We played the South Course at Bayou Oaks, located right in New Orleans City Park. The course was redesigned by Rees Jones and opened in 2017. Interestingly the North Course the only one of the original 4 courses to stand up to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
I also played a pretty good round that day.
Did I beat the boys?
No.
But we’re going to focus on the “pretty good round” part of that story.
What I remember most about Bayou Oaks, though, wasn’t a great drive or a long putt.
It was the alligator.
There it was, hanging out along the shoreline of one of the ponds like this was a completely normal thing to see on a golf course.
Being from Michigan, this is not one of the hazards I’m accustomed to dealing with.
Then someone informed me that the alligator we were looking at was just a baby.
A baby.
After that, my attention shifted slightly from taking pictures of the golf course to wondering where Mom and Dad might be.
That also explains why this particular Golf Up North gallery is a little short on photos. Apparently my dedication to documenting every hole has its limits, and those limits involve reptiles with very large teeth.
Alligator encounters aside, Bayou Oaks was a fun course and a great addition to our New Orleans trip. I got to play a good round of golf in a city I had never visited before, spend the day on the course with Guy and two of his brothers, and come home with a golf story I certainly wasn’t going to get in Northern Michigan.
The boys may have beaten me that day, but I successfully avoided becoming part of the local food chain.
I’m counting that as a win. ⛳
