Last fall, I finally got to cross a course off my bucket list. It’s not Up North, but it’s a special one. Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club (AAGO) is a private course in Southeast Michigan. Having tailgated there many times, it has been on my radar for years to play a round. Thanks to Taylor (a fraternity brother of my sons Patrick & Alex), I got my chance to play.
AAGO has been around since at least 1897 (possibly earlier—historians debate it). There is some question as to the actual year it started. According to “The Little Club,” A history of the Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club second edition. There is indication it could have been as early as 1890, but there is stronger evidence that it was established in 1897.
