Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club Course Photos

Every once in a while, we venture outside Northern Michigan for a round of golf, especially when there is a bucket list course involved.

Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club had been on my list for years. I had spent plenty of time there tailgating on Michigan football Saturdays, but there was one thing I had never actually done there.

Played golf.

Since AAGO is a private club, getting a tee time is not quite as simple as deciding one morning that today is the day. Thankfully, Taylor, a fraternity brother of my sons Patrick and Alex, was able to get us on the course and finally gave me the chance to see AAGO from the other side of the tailgate.

It was pretty cool walking around a place I had visited so many times before, only this time with golf clubs instead of tailgate supplies.

There is also a lot of history here.

Exactly how much history is actually an interesting question.

According to The Little Club: A History of the Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club, Second Edition, there is some evidence that the club could date as far back as 1890. Stronger evidence, however, points to 1897 as the year AAGO was officially established.

Either way, golfers have been making their way around this little course for a very long time.

And now I finally got to be one of them.

Thanks to Taylor for getting us out there and helping me cross another course off the bucket list. After all those years of looking at AAGO during football weekends, it was fun to finally stand on the tee box and see it the way it was meant to be seen.

Although I have to admit, it looks a little different without thousands of Michigan fans and a sea of tailgates surrounding it. ⛳
