Sometimes the best golf rounds are the ones you weren’t even sure you were going to get to play.
Arianna and Jeff were in Sault Ste. Marie for one of their daughter’s softball tournaments and, as golfers tend to do, started wondering if there might be enough room in the schedule to sneak in a round.
They found Sault Ste. Marie Country Club about 15 minutes from their hotel.
On their last day in the Soo, they called at the last minute to see if there was any chance of getting a tee time.
There was.
Now they just had to fit golf around the softball schedule.
They didn’t have enough time for a full 18, but they managed to get nine holes in before family responsibilities called again.
From everything I heard, they had a great time.
And this course comes with a pretty cool Upper Peninsula bonus.
Sault Ste. Marie Country Club sits across from the St. Marys River, so while you’re making your way around the course, you may get to watch freighters passing through.
That’s not exactly your everyday golf course scenery.
There is something very Northern Michigan about standing over a golf ball and then getting distracted because a massive Great Lakes freighter is making its way past you.
I’m pretty sure that’s an acceptable reason to back away from your shot.
Arianna and Jeff didn’t get to see the entire course that day, but they did manage to experience something else worth mentioning.
The food.
According to them, it was amazing.
That’s always a nice bonus when you’re squeezing golf into an already busy weekend. Get nine holes in, watch a few freighters go by, and finish things off with a really good meal.
They found a course close to the hotel, managed to grab a last minute tee time, played some golf between softball games, ate very well, and had fun doing it.
That’s a successful golf outing in my book.
And it sounds like a pretty good excuse to go back someday, play the other nine, and make sure the food is still as good as they remembe
