Evergreen Resort – Spruce Golf Course photos

Sometimes you pull into a golf resort and immediately start making assumptions.

We met up with the Up Mid Kid on a fall Saturday and chose Evergreen because Cadillac was a good halfway point for us. The resort is tucked away enough that it feels a little off the beaten path, but it’s still easy to find.

When we arrived, our first impression was that parts of the property felt a little dated.

Then we played the golf course.

And suddenly we were much more interested.

We played Spruce, Evergreen’s 18 hole course, and it turned out to be a really fun round. The course was in great shape, there were some interesting holes, and it gave us more of a challenge than we had expected.

This was one of those rounds that reminded me not to judge a golf course by what you see when you first pull into the parking lot.

The Spruce has some personality.

There were holes that made us think, holes that surprised us, and enough variety that by the end of the round we were already talking about coming back.

There is one important thing to know before you head out.

If you’re expecting to swing by the clubhouse after the ninth hole to grab a drink or something to eat, you’re going to be disappointed. The routing between nine and ten doesn’t take you anywhere near the clubhouse.

There is a snack shack near the 11th hole, but I’d recommend checking before your round to make sure it will be open. If not, stock up before you leave the pro shop.

Trust me, this is information you want before you’re standing at the tenth tee wondering where your hot dog is.

Evergreen also has the nine hole Norway Course, which we didn’t play on this visit.

But we plan to.

In fact, we enjoyed The Spruce enough that our next visit is going to be a little more ambitious. We’d like to stay at the resort for a weekend and play both The Spruce and The Norway.

We didn’t stay overnight on this trip, so I can’t give you my thoughts on the accommodations yet.

We’ll find out when we go back.

That’s probably the best way I can sum up my feelings about Evergreen Resort. Some of the property felt like it could use a little updating, but the golf left us intrigued enough that instead of crossing Evergreen off the list, we’re planning an entire weekend around going back.

Sometimes a course doesn’t have to knock your socks off at first glance.

It just has to make you want another round.

The Spruce did that. ⛳
